NW Loop Day 6 - camel day

Weather report - hot and dry but the good news is that we rode a short day of only 30m/48.5k from Walla Walla to Dayton, WA so got into town early. Too early for out girl rooms in some cases.
Among the instructions for the ride today was "turn L at the camel. Sounds crazy, but true ..

Here's the camel, Izzy

So left we went and into Waitsburg where pretty well everything was shut. The Sheriff had a word to us to make sure we aren't lost from our group and several of us for the impression he may have been a bit suspicious of a group of women of a certain age careening around the country on bikes. He watched while a few riders attended to a flat tyre.

Coming out of Waitsburg we paused by the road to check our route and were passed by a very wide load ... A blade from a wind turbine. It was with great relief we turned off that road to enjoy some more rolling hills and what fields, some already harvested and some being harvested.

Got into town so early the rooms weren't ready and so we took a short trip out of town to the Patit Creek campsite memorial records the stop therethere by explorers Lewis and Clasrk. The campsite is recreated in silhouettes cut from steel and erected to display the various members of the party and their activities.

Headwind  into town for shower, lunch, stroll, visit to the restored railway depot now museum and happy hour at the local brewery. Dinner tonight was Chicken Pad Thai, delicious and Marilyn's birthday cake for dessert. During the map meeting about tomorrow we were asked about a meal write some days away as the provider wanted to know what each of us would have by way of entree. I was stunned to hear that the entre choices were prime ribs amd chicken teryaki. Whatever would the main course be? Turned out of  to be one of those cultural divides where one person's entre is another's main course. Phew, glad we iĆ®got that one sorted.  Happy ending to another delightful day on the road.
